The Southern California Mormon Choir is a 100-voice choral ensemble organized under the auspices of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Since its formation in 1953, the choir has been performing concerts of classical, sacred, folk, patriotic and popular choral music throughout the Southern California area. The Choir has performed with the Boston Pops, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Glendale Symphony, the Pacific Symphony and the Utah Symphony Orchestras, as well as the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. It has recorded a collection of American folk and patriotic music entitled We Sing America, and a Christmas collection entitled Songs of Christmas. The choir is a founding member of the Los Angeles Music Center where it has performed Handel's Messiah for many years. The 2003 performance of Messiah will be at the La Mirada Theater in La Mirada, California. In the summer of 2002, the choir traveled to Lincoln, England, to participate in a Choir Festival with renowned conductors Craig Jessop (director of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir) and Stephan Cleobury (director of the King's College Choir in Cambridge). The Choir is directed by Jan Bills. Former directors and associate directors include: Frederick Davis (founder), Russell Fox, Brent Pierce, Mack Wilberg, H. Douglas Custance, and Frank Turner.
